Salon duc Tape: “The Power of Myth: The Storytellers”

Salon duc Tape – “The Power of Myth: The Storytellers” – September 14th

What can this film offer us at a time of the 6th great extinction?

“The Storytellers” film is a work of art, with drawings, stories, and early footage of indigenous tribal peoples, showing their deep love for nature and identity with their animal “relations”. This is presented through an explanatory interview between the renowned mythologist Joseph Campbell and award-winning journalist Bill Moyers. Campbell’s fame came from his work as life-long scholar and professor of mythology at Sarah Lawrence College and as the primary consultant to the film director George Lucas on the mythological basis for his Star Wars series.

After viewing this film, Janice Lynne and Tom Hoehn will host a discussion in which we’ll consider: What can a study of myth contribute to the high tech, scientifically oriented, fact and evidence-based sectors of our society today? What can it contribute to our ability to sustain and rejuvenate our beloved, but distressed natural systems on Earth? How might we partner with modern Native Americans and give long overdue respect to their folkways and folklore?
