Salon duc Tape: Migration and Borderland Justice

Salon duc Tape – Migration and Borderland Justice in Times of Coronavirus and Beyond – May 22nd, 2020
***********
How is the pandemic impacting the situation at the southern border?

In Fall 2019, a delegation traveled from Fort Collins to Arizona to participate in a border immersion trip, to learn from the work of the Ajo Samaritans, and to bear witness to the trial of Dr. Scott Warren, charged with two counts of harboring for providing humanitarian aid to migrants in the desert. Join us at this week's Salon on Friday, May 22nd for a conversation with two members of that delegation, Dr. Arpi Miller and Dr. Bill Timpson, and two members of the Ajo Samaritans, Scott Warren himself and his colleague Maria Singleton, as they share from their experiences and their work, and reflect on how things are changing in the face of COVID19.

Scott Warren is a professor of geography and a humanitarian aid worker who lives in Southern Arizona, working with both the Ajo Samaritans and with No More Deaths to provide water and perform search and recover missions in one of the deadliest corridors of the US-Mexico borderlands. Maria Singleton is an artist and activist who spends half the year in Ajo working with the Samaritans and half the year in Northern Colorado participating in a number of immigration justice initiatives. Bill Timpson is a professor in the School of Education at Colorado State University whose work focuses on peace and reconciliation, sustainability and diversity. Finally, Arpi Miller is an academic and activist who works on immigration justice projects through Fuerza Latina, The Interfaith Solidarity and Accompaniment Coalition (ISAAC) and the NoCo Emergency Immigration Fund.
