Salon duc Tape: Ranked Choice Voting

Salon duc Tape – Ranked Choice Voting – June 14th, 2019
***********
What is ranked choice voting, and how might it work in Fort Collins and Colorado elections?

At the Salon on June 14th, Linda Templin of RCV for Colorado will explain how Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) works and why it improves the political landscape. Linda writes that "RCV is a proven method used to eliminate the ‘spoiler effect’ in 120+ countries, the state of Maine, and a dozen cities including our own Telluride. It was created to be more fair - in that voters don't have to pick between the lesser of two evils. Since the 1850's, it has also turned out to make campaigns more issue-oriented as candidate vie for second- and third-choice votes. For us, this can be an end to toxic primaries and a beginning of elections that build community." She will also discuss state-level and municipal-level feasibility. Candy will be involved in Linda’s demonstration election, so don’t miss out!

Linda is the Executive Director for RCV for Colorado, a non-partisan election reform organization. She has a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Southern California, a Bachelors in Political Science from the University of North Texas, and has over nineteen years of nonprofit program management experience. She has spent the past two years working with elections administrators and other subject-matter experts on the issue of election reform. Linda is dedicated to building upon Colorado's elections administration best practices, which lead the nation in reliability. She serves on the Centennial Election Commission, is a member of the League of Women Voters, and serves on the boards of other non-profits. She enjoys science fiction, art, and cooking. She lives with her husband, daughter, and two cats.
